I would like to present a game of my own. it's called the glove of the void. you are the commander of a ship, in league with the defenders of earth. there are few of them, however they do all in their power to prevent things like genocide, needless torture (if its clear that 500 volts isnt going to coerce him maybe seducing him would be better), un-natural things such as supernovae that should not happen (like, 50 in five minutes when theres supposed to only be one in a thousand years), pirating, world-spread computer viruses (those generally cause major economic problems as well as tactical disadvantage on all fronts), weapons of mass destruction (and they ALWAYS know when there are none, so they would not have supported bush if he had really gone to iraq to search for weapons-MD because there were none to search for), things like that.

the first defender of earth was james treet. he invented the absolute first Deep-space manned science vessel, and when he returned there was a huge war between soviet russia (back with a vengeance!) versus the UN. the soviets were just one country-- one big country, but just one nonetheless-- and they had practically declared war on the world. what was worse was the fact that they were winning. however, there were still three countries left to dissolve-- china, canada, and the USA. the chinese were putting up a pretty good fight, and had been able to shoot down 16 out of the 17 nuclear warheads, and the 17th failed to detonate so they were able to use it against the russians. the canadians were not so lucky, however there was so much territory that they could probably take over 100 nukes; however, they were considered as much of a threat as a sea slug, due to their pacifism. the united states were their prime goal, and had it not been for james treet, the USA and USSR would have annihilated each other.however, once he returned to earth after a 6 month journy, he decided to take action against the ICBMs.

his ship had a proton-based power source, as well as lasers and missiles. these were capable of intercepting asteroids (much stronger than ICBMs) smaller and faster than the ICBMs were, so this was no problem. however, one of the missiles hit the ship. it nearly broke it in half, however the captain braved severe radiation damage to prevent a full hull breach. his patch was effective, however when they attempted to treat him for radiation burns he refused. the tactical officer had been killed, so he took control. the autonomic aiming system was damaged, so when he tried to destroy the ICBM, he was unable to keep it from entering the atmosphere. normally the proton accelerator cannon would take care of this, however only way to fire them was out the access ports; they had been destroyed by the missile. he ordered them to abandon ship while he attempted to use the lasers, and in order to do that, he would have to bring the ship closer. he calculated that by the time he got within range it would be too late to get off the ship.

he was the captain and he sorta went down with his ship. as it entered the atmosphere, he realised how come this missile had been able to evade everything so easily-- it was more than just a regular ICBM, but it was also one designed to evade all anti-missile fire and obliterate the united states. his inscintive had just increased. he got close enough to fire lasers, and they started to malfunction. he rerouted the fuel to the main rockets while firing his lasers in order to destroy the ICBM. it had the first form of shielding, which ended up failing as soon as he shot them. this was the only shot his capacitors could afford; he was now running wihout power. he decided to ram the ship into the ICBM; this made it fail to detonate as it crash-hit the pacific ocean. his ship was not so lucky-- the only salvageable component was the bridge, complete with the main computer. other than the computer, the entire ship was hardly new.

and the rest... is history.


Tomorrow I shall create an armory. it will contain an enormous amount of stuff so sinse i only have 60 thousand characters i will reserve 3 or 4 posts to let it fit.

simple physics

number one: all ships can enter atmosphere, however they can only survive high-speed re-entry if they have atmospheric shields. also, the only way for any ship destroyer size and above to fly in attmosphere, assuming it survived entry, is for it to have engines normally powerful enough for it to get to light speed by themselves in less than a day (of course, without the help of FTL drive). then it will be able to fly, not merely hover.
number 2: asteroids drain any shields except kinetic shields; only energy weapons can get through those (bullets and missiles are stopped for example).
number 3: if a shield is 50% efficient all damage dealt to it is doubled. 200% efficient shields halve all damage.
4: no weapon can go below 100% efficiency. any weapon above 100% efficiency must use the following formula against shields: W-S=E, if E=0 then add 100 to E. weapon will deal damage accordingly.
5: if a shield has resistance, that is how much damage a weapon's damage will lose on hit.
6: if a shield has polarity, any weapon who's damage is below a certain polarity grade (example: 4 damage and 5 polarity) cannot damage the ship. if it has higher damage or has enough depolarization to overcome polarity, full damage is dealt. if a shield has both, then any weapon overcomes the resistance then the polarity (ie 3 danage against 2 resist 2 polarity deals 0 unless has any depolarization)
7: defractor shields essentially break up a weapon unless it has some form of shielding, in which it breaks up the shield instead.
8: any shield with retalliate deals a X damage to the attacker, where X=the damage of the weapon times the shield efficiency plus the retalliate efficiency, devided by 2 and rounded up.
9: all shields are the hull*the ship type

ship type:
science vessel=2
industrial ship=0.5
industrial support=0.25
fighter=1
support ship=1.25
destroyer=2
cruiser=3
support cruiser=3.5
Battleship=5
warship=10; all warships also have 5 polarity and 1 shield and hull resistance as well as 50% retalliation, in addition to what they normally have.
war carrier, rerigged=20; all war carriers count as war ships when adding bonuses, except that it has 3 hull resistance and 9 extra polarity.

10: all ships can have up to 3 layers of shielding, however this can get pretty hard on the reactor and your wallet. it is simply impossible to layer more than 3 layers together (even if you have 9001 googolwatts of energy produced by that ancient powerplant)

kinetic
100% against all but kinetic weapons; 125% against kinetics.

Ray shields
Defractor
weapons deal 50% less damage. 2 resistance. all weapons deal damage directly to the hull.

Magnetic shields
energy
200% efficient against any weapons except magnetic/metallic weapons (examples: railgun, metallic lance)

Pulse shields
Kinergy defraction
how it works: when your ship takes damage, you can choose to activate your pulse shields. these then make one great energy burst. that energy soon converts to matter (destroying anything in the way) and disappears. the shields have enough charge for one blast per turn, so either use them to block a massive energy surge (example: they can block a deathstar antiplanet blast) or in combination with ramming speed to deal massive damage.note that your ship does not die if you use pulse shields in combination with ramming speed,

Draino shields
energy
these shields are deflector shields, but weaker. however, they can drain your opponents shields to add to themself.

Armor shields
kinetic
200% efficiency. 5 polarity. 3 resistance. drains from your hull when it takes damage (similar to ray shields) however it allows your weapons to deal double damage. falls when hull strength gets down to 25%, allowing you to have at least some chance at evasive manuvers. can be manually re-raised when they fall (but the computer will say "that action is not recomended. danger: severe hull damage." right after following your instructions).

Weapons

Metallic lance
short range
used when ramming into another ship, or to keep that other ship from ramming into you. used right, and your ship might actuall survive.

Saw
short range
useful when getting up close and personal with an enemy ship; you can use this to reach out and saw off his parts. not recomended to use when your shields are down as you will have essentially opened up a huge gaping hole in your hull not to mention your enemy could focus fire on that hole and end up keeping it from closing, as well as jamming or destroying your saw.

Flak spray
point defence weapon
these are a short range weapon. prevents lasers and particle cannons from being used, intercepts most missiles (except shielded missiles) and deals severe damage to fighters trying to get up close for a shooting run.

Point defence laser
point defence weapon
these find energy balls, fighters, missiles and the like and focus fire on those. extremely effective against what they are designed for (unlike flak weapons which help discourage ramming speed at any time other than pure desperacy).

Machine gun
kinetic pulse weapon
the machine gun basically points at a target, loads up, and then fires hundreds of thousands of bullets in seconds. then it must wait about a minute to reload. moderate range. high tracking speed. very effective against anything except a single, small, fast fighter (but that's what point defence lasers are for, right?); even good at taking down shields and munching through hull. low health.

Rifled Cannon
long range kinetic weapon
the rifled cannon is similar to the machine gun; however, it essentially lobs a very large (about the size of a firewing) metal bullet at the target. not recomended at medium to short due to the large explosion that happens when the bullet hits the target (if the shields aren't up, which they usually aren't due to the extreme range of this weapon, it destroys the ship, no matter the size in a single shot). has longer range than a player's normal line of sight. is the second longest ranged weapon in the game. 200% efficiency. 10 depolarization. the computer wont complain about it being used at point blank because if you have weapons this big and are point blank with another big cruiser, you are doomed anyway. besides, the explosion wont hurt you because you are at the very center of it.

Long range probe
long range reconnasaince weapon
this fires a probe that goes in the direction of your opponent. speed is automatically set at 99.9999...% of light speed, until the opponent is in the probe's line of sight. allows you to use the rifled cannon's maximum range.

Railgun
kinetic weapon
moderate damage. relatively high energy use. can be used at any range except point blank (due to the size of the barrel). 8 depolarization.

Coil gun
kinetic weapon
moderate damage. high energy use. can be used at any range.

Laser gun
energy weapon
low damage. moderate energy use. mid-short range.

Laser Cannon
energy weapon
high damage. extremely high energy use. long-short range.

Ultra Quantum Laser
energy weapon.
Extremely high damage. can only be used on ships destroyer and above. ships can only use 1* of these. drains all energy from the ship. instantly takes down all shields on opposing ship; pulse shields CANNOT fire at this due to how fast the UQL fires.
*: warships and modified war carriers can use 2 ultra quantum lasers, and have the energy capabilities for one of these to not drain their energy to zero.

Micro pulse laser
energy weapon
moderate damage. low energy use. short to point blank range.

To Hawk: What sort of game is this? What mechanics does it use? It's got a great-looking storyline so far, but not much in terms of gameplay.
