List Of Stupid Ideas

I'm not posting this in the requests forum because it's not serious (or at least not THAT serious), but I thought we could amuse ourselves a little by coming up with oddball ideas that would be amusing, but probably not the best ideas for the game.

I'll start us off.



Idea #1: When two ships with a "Retaliate" ability damage one another, the Retaliate ability keeps firing back and forth because of the other ship's Retaliate ability, and this keeps on happening until one of the ships dies.

Actually, I rather like this as a REAL idea. Having an ability that simply draws a card (if you've already drawn one) seems like a bit much, but a *possible* draw has some merit to it. Hmmmm!

Smash a structure and deploy another for CIP energy (Generate 1 Solar When Deployed etc.)

building on that, artillery cruiser or frigate.

good idea: in a "shipless" deck that has 4 technowalls and your enemy isnt deploying ships, target your technowall with plasma streams, lightning arcs, flares. it will damage the enemy base.

If you aren't doing that, you are probably winning less often than people who are.

Every time I am in that situation (lose 1-3 life to cast something 1 turn sooner OR no difference because I can't cast something anyway) I kill my land and hope I lose the life.

Really? Most often when I scrap a structure, I lose vastly more energy that I'd gain if I deployed the CIP structure. I've found it very rare that the scrap-to-CIP tactic doesn't cause me serious harm because of this, and have basically stopped using it save when that 1 energy is what I desperately need and is my only hope of survival if I get lucky and don't lose any energy when I scrap my structure.

The chance of losing energy is 50%. If you do lose energy, 1/3 of the time you will lose only 1 energy. Assuming the land you are playing is the sort to generate only 1 energy on CIP you will at least break even on energy 3/6 + 1/6 of the time = 66%.

The chance that you actually gain it would be equal to the 50% chance of losing life.

Even if you do net lose energy after landing in the remaining 33%, you generally generate more than 1 energy next turn which will almost always put you at more than the original +1 would have gotten you anyway (energy generation assumed to be at least 3 for a reasonable hand). So the odds of you not being able to play this turn AND next turn if you sacrifice the land approaches zero.

However, the net loss from landing in the failure zone does carry forward and affect future turns potentially. Not only might you delay card A by the same 1 turn it would have been delayed anyway, but you may also delay card B by an additional turn and so on. I am assuming this problem is what you are focusing on.

If so, you really have to weigh the potential gain now vs the potential loss later.

For me, if I was in the situation where I really need the card to be played now then it would be a no brainer. I would just worry about later if I live that long. If there is no later then you do the hope and pray method now.

However, if you really don't need the card now and it will throw off your curve completely if you net lose energy, then it would seem like a no brainer to skip it.

In between those two times, I would almost always lean towards playing the card now. Board presence is everything in this game. Optimally you want to affect the board as early as possible and as often as possible, and sacrificing the land and hoping you lose life is 50% likely to lead to you playing the card now which is (IMHO) good enough.

Basically, critical success is always really good and critical failure is only sometimes bad.

I had another great stupid idea!

If a ship's attack is reduced, it can go into negative values. Ships with negative attack will heal the enemy player/ship when it is attacked.

Make negative health available. Almost all ships are indestructable if were not the antimatter bombs and lost mines.
