Behold the wrath of this funeral doom supergroup! Made up of members of Pantheist, Solicide,
In Somnis, and Until death Overtakes me. This debut delves straight into the blackened, hostile,
moss-covered, tar-water flooded cavernous catacombs of a semi-remembered nightmare. It trawls
ancient, toxic subterranean streams towards a passage through a forest clearing that no man has
trodden, and for good reason!
Besides serving a mighty salute to distinguished embossers of the funeral doom codex like Skepticism
and Thergothon, Wijlen Wij absorb elements from other genres, all beautifully accentuated by the
dominant, trebly, buzzing, overdistorted guitars. Massive opener 'L'anatheme' presents a choral
chant and reverberating organ followed by skeletal, medieval apocalyptic procession sounds and
the aforementioned buzzsaw static backed by gigantic tympani action is a wet dream come true,
combining neo-folk, martial industrial and funeral doom to a seamless, victorious whole. At
their 'worst', Wijlen Wij simply sound like slow-mo BM.
